Richard Pascall was an owner of a belt-manufacturing company in South Africa, until he sold it in 2006. It was around that time he met Karen Webster, a Southern California native. After Karen obtained her degree in pastry arts, she and Richard started a bottle tea company. That didn’t quite work out, but led them to making chocolate from scratch instead.
