The Bergamot fruit was first popularized in France by King Stanislas in the 18th century. In 1850, a perfumer suggested to a confectioner in Nancy that he combine the essence of Bergamot with sugar to make candy. Since then, the Bergamot of Nancy has become a prized French sweet loved by many!
